Battery Energy Storage System
Green power storage
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) have rapidly developed into a key component of the energy transition in Germany.
BESS act like a large rechargeable battery for the grid capturing excess energy from renewable energy sources or low-priced grid power and releasing it during peak demand, outages, or when renewables aren't producing, thus stabilizing the grid, increasing renewable integration, and providing backup power.
The “Ruperti II” drilling permit has sufficient area to install a 10MWe BESS and will be integrated with the geothermal heat, cooling and power generation facility.
The aim is for the BESS to be charged by the geothermal power plant, Additionally, the BESS can help optimise production from the geothermal plant and support the Kirchanschöring electricity network.
